The Naked Office

I’ve returned to my room with a limited view.  When arriving back to what I’d previously called the den, it became clear I couldn’t sit in the room as it was.  The last 15-months have been etched into the walls; there’s a hole under the window filled with a memory that I’ll fix it when the rain comes in.

I thought about what I should do in the room; what my focus should be after my hiatus.  Challenging as it was, I concluded that my aim should be writing rather than watching tv.  So, I changed the core of the room and it’s no longer a den, it’s an office.  A naked office.

I put a small table in front a window that had a limited view.  There’s a row of rose bushes looking straight out, and the window itself has never been used beyond peeking through when the doorbell rings.  It sits next to the front porch and has, up until now, been used primarily as a light source for the den.  The den, a room with a different view.

I wouldn’t have touched a thing except I couldn’t stand looking at it any longer.  And that laptop.
There, next to the couch sat a laptop set to never sleep; its open browser pointing to Hulu, or maybe it was Netflix, waiting for someone to hit play.  “Blue Bloods?”  “Emergency?”  What was it?  I don’t remember, but I know I couldn’t look at it any longer.

The whole corner needed change, so I started with clearing out the bookshelf.  When finished, I was left with a few DVD’s that I didn’t recognize – maybe they belong to next-door – and a paperback dictionary set, you know, the kind that includes a thesaurus and quick speller.  I guess if the power goes out, I can always go manual and I'll be happy I’ve got them.  Whatever, I now have an empty bookshelf where I can put office supplies.  I need to go shopping.

I removed all the pillows, cushions, throws and anything inviting for humans residing on that side of the couch and replaced it with something for the dogs.  Starting with a soft 3-foot kennel cushion and a matching luxurious doggy blanket.  I want one of those blankets for myself; it's lamb’s wool on one side and a soft plush velour on the other, mmm, nice warm and cozy.  The dogs now have a place they can be while I write.

Write?  I forgot!  What am I writing?  I should be writing something naked for the blog, but it seems I’m writing on everything but. There’s a lot of “this & that” getting posted, but nothing nudist and certainly nothing profound enough to boast about.  Not all my time has been wasted though, I’ve spent hours during that hiatus in various waiting rooms, rebuilding my website to host on this new server.  In addition, I’ve been trying to move my old Google Blogger postings, but I've got a problem; me, I’m re-reading them and well, a writer is always an editor.  But I now have a naked office where I can edit; albeit one with a limited view of roses, the front porch and who might be ringing the doorbell.
